Disease is a strong word, but it got your attention…and that was our goal. Living Ministries realizes that hopelessness is not actually a disease but we feel that by using this term we may help people who are intimidated by the idea of solving this problem, see that it is something we can heal. It may require more than a pill, but like learning to walk there is a process and goal to work towards.
disease (di-zez) n. 1. An abnormal condition of an organism or part that impairs normal physiological functioning, especially as a result of infection, inherent weakness, or environmental stress. 2. A condition or tendency as of society, regarded as abnormal and harmful. 3. Lack of ease. – Webster’s II New Riverside University Dictionary; 1995.
Hopelessness sneaks up on us in many forms:
The family that just needs help making it to the next paycheck…
The person that has given up trying to find the answer…
Homeless people that have to live on the streets…
…we could keep going…
Living Ministries is a committee of people that sees that individuals that having trouble finding hope are people just like them. We recognize that society sometimes tends to refer to “them” as different, unworthy or incapable of saving.
We want to help people find the resources they need whether that is someone to help them fill out forms or just listen to what they have to say.
Living Ministries recognizes that some people, that do not have a home, have chosen this lifestyle, we want to help them get through the night, but we also want to place the people, that want help, on the right path; to see these people reach their goals and live up to their potentials.
Living Ministries recognizes that there are many established groups that have and are working toward our same goal; to make sure people don’t go hungry and have shelter, to see homeless people in their own home and living productive lives while meeting their individual standards. We do not want to take away from the structure and programs and desires of all the organizations that have tried to heal this disease. Our goal is to create a network of facilities that can answer the individual needs of as many people as necessary while learning to listen to each other and work together as a community.
Nearly everyday our committee members meet a new person or find out about a new program they didn’t know already existed. We believe that by having one place that is well educated about the resources our generous and capable community has created and maintained and by allowing private companies and individuals to “Pay it Forward” by doing the one thing or giving the one thing they have to give, we can, as a community, build up people that have felt lost or unappreciated. We also believe that our dream and structure doesn’t have to stay in Cowlitz County, but by sharing with other communities we can help other areas to better help those that are residentially challenged to solve the reason or disease that stops them from thriving.
Right now, like the cure for cancer, we don’t have the cure, but we continue to take steps that bring us closer to sharing hope every day. We invite you to walk with us.
