The Ombuds offers a free service in Cowlitz County to receive concerns and complaints from people who are receiving public mental health services.
The Ombuds Mission:
To mediate between agencies and consumers to help resolve concerns and complaints at the lowest possible level.
What is a “Consumer”?
- “Consumers” are people who are or have received publicly funded mental health services in Cowlitz County.
- “Consumers” also include parents and legal guardians for children.
- Family Members or other interested people who act on the behalf of a consumer can also use this program.
Who is eligible?
Cowlitz County residents who are or have received publicly funded mental health services in Cowlitz County.
What can Ombuds do for me?
- Listen to your problem.
- Analyze what is involved.
- Investigate facts, records, policies, procedures and laws.
- Recommend changes to correct a problem or prevent future occurrences.
- Provide assistance to help you pursue a formal complaint resolution.
- Follow through to see that the grievance is resolved and that you are kept informed..
- Provide information on resources and consumer rights.
The Ombuds cannot:
- Act as a case manager.
- Give you legal advice or represent you as an attorney would.
- Guarantee any specific outcomes.
- Assist with services or entitlements outside of the public mental health system.
