President, Summer Clemenson started the meeting at 7:10pm.
Unfinished Business: The 1st Annual Christmas Angel Telethon took place on Friday, December 09,-10 from 6pm-6pm at the Longview Eagles on 12th Avenue.
The Longview Eagles were so accommodating to us throughout the entire telethon. We had several local bands and dance teams perform and several local heroes were interviewed by Lonnie Knowles, Bryan Calhoun and Karen Gidderon. These heroes were community leaders like Kelly from Mountain Ministries and Nate Grossman from Celebrate Recovery Northwest.
While there were some technical difficulties, President Summer Clemenson and Bryan Calhoun were able to get the telethon to stream live via the internet using a Ustream account. The energy was electric at the Eagles for 24 hours! There were viewers as far away as Alaska! The idea was to have the first multi-media, interactive telethon in Longview. The interviews were created to pull everyone into the picture. We believe in pooling resources together and creating a common ground to walk upon together. This way we foster hope for our community. An evaluation sheet will be released with next month’s power meeting notes. Our goal is to add enough people next year to really make the telethon even more successful.
Next year we would like to have two greeters at the door. They will find out if the guest is here for an interview, a part of a band, or a fun-loving guest. We raised $3020.00. We will start planning next year’s Christmas Angel Telethon January 9, 2012. This will give us enough time to reach more people, make sure there are lots of helping hands, and advertise for a longer period of time. All and all the entire power group is ready to tackle this event again! The Salvation Army needs our help and we will walk beside them to help raise funds as long as they desire.
The help we received at The Christmas Angel Telethon was sincerely appreciated.
New Business:
We would like to plan a big Irish Fling for Saturday March 17, 2012. We will create a non-alcohol St. Paddy’s Day Event! The committee will find a venue as soon as possible and begin to shape and mold an incredible event. The idea is to make a multi-generational event that garners both Irish history and the current Irish cultural aspects that make life a kick!
We are proud to have John Hanna on our committee now! John has great logistical skills and was a huge asset at The Christmas Angel Telethon. Welcome John. We will be reaching out to many others that express an interest in committee membership. The family is growing! Our Irish Fling will be a fund raiser for Living Ministries. More details will be given at our next meeting. The planning will start for The 2nd Annual Angel Christmas Telethon at our first power meeting in 2012. January 09, 2012 at 7:30pm at The Electric Bean on Washington Way in Longview, Washington.
