Business Banking
Living Ministries now has a business checking account at Longview Fibre Credit Union!
September 13th Goodwill Conference
Summer went to the Goodwill Conference on September 13, 2011. She met Jon Hanna and Diane Marsters. We are happy to have Diane Marsters at our meeting tonight.
Riverside Park Cleanup
The Riverside Park cleanup on September 16, 2011 was a major hit. Both for profit and non-profits joined hands to help Riverside Park look super nice.
Love Overwhelming Event
The Night of Prayer on Saturday, October 1, 2011 was a super success. We had a great night of filled bellies and a filled donation box! Bob Jones of Evangel Christian Fellowship made some amazing chicken soup. Great Music and fellowship.
New Business:
New Donations
On Thursday, October 6, 2011 Living Ministries received a donation from Darleen Henderson, Summer’s wonderful grandmother, in the amount of $150.00. The check was deposited on October 8, 2011.
DLE Cafe
Summer gave a summary and a call for volunteers and donations for Daily Living Essential Cafe. Linda said she had some sleeping bags she would wash and donate. She also offered to keep her eyes open for used sleeping bags when she is shopping at Goodwill and Thrift Stores.
Karen shared that Cowlitz Container was donating containers for donation items. We will be contacting a few businesses to add to drop off locations.
Keith Young suggested that we contact Bob’s and Wood’s Logging to see if they have hand and body warmers. Summer agreed that since they are locally owned we wouldn’t have to go through the steps necessary for a corporation.
Salt&Light
Keith Young gave a presentation on micro-loans. In Africa you can loan money to a community and they build businesses and once they become financially independent, they turn around and give money to another community so that they can then become financially independent. This is a program called Salt&Light. It is changing lives! This is a way to help without even leaving your living room that is based on educating people on social issues outside the United States and small changes they can make to help others.
Currently Salt&Light is working with Blood and Water, Living Water, World Vision and ONE. There will be super early premiere of the movie, 58 on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 6:00pm at Evangel Christian Fellowship located at 1335 11th Avenue in Longview, WA. This is going to be wonderful.
Summer asked Keith what Living Ministries could do to help with Salt&Light. Currently Exclaim Media, LLC has placed the event on CowlitzToday.com and will blast it in their eClub. In the future when they have events if they give us a month notice we can help with PSAs.
Linda asked Keith if they are affiliated with the organization Heifer. Keith was familiar with the program but hadn’t contacted them as of yet.
Witches Hollow
Summer met with Angela Fowler of Witches Hollow. Witches Hollow is a great event held at Kelso Commons Park on Oak Street. This will happen on October 31st, from 5pm-9pm. Lots of businesses donate however they don’t receive tax benefits because they don’t have a 501(c)3.
Summer asked for a vote on whether we should consider offering DBA status to community events to give them benefit of our 501(c)3 status – once we have it…Committee agreed unanimously. Summer will research what it would take to do that and other details. Discussed that we will have to change the bylaws once the information is known.
Meeting Notes
It was brought to our attention that we have never voted on accepting meeting notes before we post them online. Because Karen fills both VP and Secretary position and Summer fills both President and Webmaster positions we have always just gone over the notes together and okayed them. It was agreed that we can keep doing this.
Accepting Donations
Now that we have our business bank account we can start the procedures to accept donations online. We talked about the benefits of allowing people to donate one time or sign up for monthly donations. We agreed unanimously that we want to offer both options. Summer will contact the bank to see what our options are besides Paypal.
Summer adjourned the meeting at 8:05pm
