angelwingsGreetings Friends!

I know that we are always advocating for something and I don’t want to confuse you. Seriously, I understand that we have Survival Drive 2013 going strong through October 31st and we just had Pet LOVE Drive 2013 in August and here I am asking you for more stuff…what kind of leader am I?

A passionate one.

Angel Wings Rescue is a passion of mine. I love animals. It is not my gift to care for more than a few cats. My gift is telling you about this wonderful place where animals get top notch health care and amazing love until you come to take your new forever pet home. (They have A LOT of cats that need forever homes, by the way)

For a long time, by wonderful friend and committee member and Executive Director of our Affiliate Ministry, Angel Wings Rescue, Debra Lawson-Bean was able to handle the ministry God called her to by herself. Her Mary Kay business supplemented the donations that she needed to feed all the animals and all was well. But now, on top of a year of new health concerns, she is overrun with animals because she has a soft heart and there are so many people that either can’t care for their animals or don’t want their animals anymore and she just can’t say no. More animals don’t just create a larger need for food and medical care, but they create more work and less resources to keep Angel Wings Rescue in good repair. More work means less time to manage her Mary Kay business also.

Have a drawn you a picture of a never ending cycle, well enough?

So here it is: The outdoor cat area needs some repairs to make it through winter. The cats love going outside and our existing area needs a new roof that doesn’t have to be dumped off everyday and doesn’t potentially drench our fearless animal whisperer every time it is necessary to clear the rain and snow off.

We are so blessed because our Vice President, Linda Haarstad, has the knowledge to draw up plans for the repairs. She is sick this week, which means that this project, we hoped to finish yesterday, has been postponed. We look at this blessing of more time to collect items or money to finish the project and say, “Thank you God that you know exactly what we need.”

We have a structure that is 6 ft tall, 10 feet wide and 20 ft long. It is made of 4×4’s and 2×2’s that are covered with chicken wire. Because of previous rain and snow puddles on top of the tarp that was thrown over it, there are broken boards that need to be replaced. We know this is Angel Wings’ last winter here, so we don’t want to spend a dime over what we have to, but in order to avoid issues we must add a roof that is super light weight, that is at a slant to let water and snow just fall off.

This is a message that Linda shared with Debra and forwarded to me:

Hi Debra…It looks like we will not be able to come on Mon. I have a case of the shingles and am staying in for a few days.

I wanted to let you know that I figured approximately what we would need to build a framework for the tarps and it is between $100 and $130 (lumber “not pressure treated”, nails, tax etc.)

I will know better once I have had a chance to see how the existing enclosure is framed. I could tell a little from the pics that the girls took but I need to see how many of the cross members are broken. At this point we will need 3-8′ 2×4, 6- 14′ 2×4, and 3 to 14 -10′ 2×4 (depending on how many we will need to replace.) plus nails or screws.

I will be out to look at it as soon as I feel better. We will be looking for some young laborers to do the actual construction. We will keep you posted on our progress.

(Linda calls Karen and I “the girls”)

We are thinking that if we include something wide that can hold the shape of the roof, we would like to create, there would be little area for water and snow to collect. Heavy duty tarps will be put over the entire roof. So on top of what Linda listed above, throw in some fiber glass, old paneling, those sheets of plastic used to make political signs, anything that will help the tarps stay at an angle and rigid. This doesn’t have to be pretty. We have plenty of colorful cats to liven this structure up!

We don’t need new items (except maybe the screws…we think that screws would allow Debra to recycle some of the structure when she moves in the spring).

Do you have some boards or any of the items listed above that you could donate?

Do you know anyone that may be able to help?

Please call us at 360-610-7778 to arrange pick up or get directions to Angel Wings Rescue.

If you would like to help financially please see our How To Help page. Make sure to make a note that your donation is for Angel Wings Rescue since we are also collecting money for Hearts For Homeless during our Survival Drive.

Please understand that I know that Living Ministries is always asking for your help. Our goal to help our Affiliate Ministries keeps us always working to help where a regular church is limited by its walls. I will never ask you for more than you can give. If you can only afford a prayer for our cause than I am truly thankful. You are blessing to me.

Thank you so much! Thank you for making a difference! Thank you for helping!

Sincerely,

Summer D Clemenson
Executive Director
