On January 30, 2013 I got an email from a little boy named Jacob:
What I do is collect recyclable items, such as aluminum cans, scrap metal, old non-working appliances. All the money goes into my account. What I do with the money is buy Christmas gifts for the needy here in Cowlitz County. I don’t have non-profit status. Not sure how to go about doing that. Just thought I’d message you and let you know what I do to try and help the needy. I was able to help 20 families and the Community House. Thank you for reading I have to go finish my home work (4th grade is more work) Thanks Jacob 🙂
At that moment I was kind of brain-dead because we had just finished our 2nd Christmas JOY Telethon and our 1st Helping the Helpers Benefit Concert and I was also working on our 1st Furry Fundraiser Tea Party and anticipating the fundraisers to follow…
…Six months later, when I had recouped, I continued the conversation…
Jacob told me that he hand-delivers each gift to the homes of the children. He said that they found families by word of mouth; parents who had just lost their job or single moms. He said also picked up Angel tags off of trees, gave toys to Toys for Tots and bought clothes for Community House on Broadway.
I shared his conversation with our President, Karen Gidderon and mentioned it at Living Ministries Power Meetings…and we were all touched by this (at the time) 10-year-old kid.
When it wad decided that we would alter our annual telethon to just be a Living Ministries event we thought it would be great to include Canz 4 Toyz and once we met the whole family we were hooked! This sweet family works hard. They are not rich by financial standards, but they are millionaires in the love department. Their smiles are contagious and their hearts are overflowing with generosity and passion for their son’s goal.

Living Ministries is so excited to extend a hand to our latest Affiliate Ministry. I know they feel blessed to be helped and we feel blessed to be able to be there to offer Marketing, Exposure, Board Development and more.
